The AACR makes a systemic and programmatic impact with the goal of increasing academic and personal achievement that, in turn, eliminates academic disparities in the African-American community.

We promote healthy living in the African American Community in Howard County - aiming to tackle health and wellness concerns in our community, including obesity, disease prevention and management; and insurance. In past events we have partnered with health advocacy groups, such as Healthy Howard, to successfully reached upwards of 500 attendees. Participants had the opportunity to enroll in insurance programs and to learn about countywide health initiatives.

The African American community makes up a significant portion of the thousands of uninsured in Howard County. Our current program, Project Access, seeks to increase access to care by focusing on prevention and the importance of comprehensive primary care. The committee will host a number of education seminars and enrollment events throughout the year such as Healthcare from the Pulpit and Heal the Hood. In addition, we will partner with the Howard County Unsweetened campaign and develop programs that support combating childhood obesity.
